SAN DIEGO ? A sailor involved in a ring that e-mailed pornographic images of teenage girls between San Diego and the USS Constellation pleaded guilty today to felony charges, including lewd contact with a 15-year-old. Wayne Van Craig, 22, faces a maximum of seven years and four months in state prison when he is sentenced Jan. 26 by Judge John Thompson.

Craig pleaded guilty to sending harmful material to a minor, sexual assault, possession of child pornography, manufacturing of child pornography, and two counts of lewd contact with a 15-year-old.

Co-defendant and fellow sailor Robert Quackenbush, 36, pleaded guilty three months ago to rape, sexual assault and child pornography charges and will be sentenced Jan. 9.

His sister-in-law, Candy Besecker, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the molestation of one of the victims and was sentenced to probation and counseling.

Craig and Quackenbush had sexual contact with at least one high school girl before they deployed to the Persian Gulf in November 2002, prosecutor Jeff Dort said.

The defendants exchanged pictures of the sex acts involving the 15-year-old and a 16-year-old girl while the sailors were aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, Dort said.
