POINTE A LA HACHE, La. - A California man has been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl on a cruise ship.
Brian Bogostan, 25, of Van Nuys, was arrested Sunday by Plaquemines Parish sheriff's deputies after the Carnival Conquest docked in New Orleans following a weeklong cruise to Jamaica and Mexico.
The mother of the girl, who is from Tuscaloosa, Ala., notified officials after learning that her teenage daughter allegedly had sex with the man, authorities said.
It was believed the ship, on its return up the Mississippi River, would have been in Plaquemines Parish at the time of the alleged crime, said Maj. John Marie, a sheriff's spokesman.
Marie said authorities called the sheriff's office after the ship docked in New Orleans. Bogostan was held for Plaquemines Parish officers.
Bogostan was booked with simple rape and jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. The girl's mother said the girl was intoxicated at the time, Marie said.
