Ex-Nat official jailed for teen boy sex [1]

FORMER Queensland National party official who forced teenage boys into sex acts as part of pagan rituals was jailed today for eight years. Garry Robin Ford, 55, will also be forced to give police his contact details for a decade once released on the 22 charges involving the drugging and sodomising of underaged boys.
Ford was found guilty by a Brisbane Supreme Court jury in June of indecently treating, sodomising and supplying hallucinatory magic mushrooms to boys during 1989 and 1990.

The trial was told schoolboys had sat in a candle-lit circle as their black-caped "teacher" chanted and danced.

They performed sex acts on each other and on Ford to be initiated into his White Brotherhood sect.

Ford had protested his innocence after being acquitted of 17 of the 39 charges he faced.

He had declared in an outburst as the verdicts were read that "God" would be the "judge".

His sentencing was delayed for a psychologist's report which found Ford was "psychologically blind" and "insightless" to his actions.

Ford had set up a "haven" for his abuse by providing computer games, soft drink, chips and sometimes alcohol for his young victims.

Crown prosecutor Todd Fuller said the boys found the environment irresistible at an impressionable age.

He said a 15-year-old boy, who Ford knew to be the victim of abuse at the hands of another man, was groomed by Ford to be his partner for a year.

Another victim, aged 13 at the time, was being abused by both Ford and another man.

Mr Fuller said the boy was paid to have sex with Ford.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Debra Mullins urged Ford to seek treatment in jail.

"I hope that you take the steps now to reflect on the conduct," Judge Mullins said.

Six young men testified against Ford during the trial.

They alleged they took part in pagan rituals in Brisbane suburbs and in a bat cave near Yeppoon in central Queensland.

Ford, a former teacher, worked for the Nationals in the lead-up to the 1989 Queensland election won by the Wayne Goss-led Labor Party.

The National-Liberal Coalition lost power after 32 years in the poll.

Ford is still facing another three indictments set to go before the District Court later this year.
