SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky., August 16th, 2004, 9:50 p.m.) -- A 27-year-old woman arrested for having sex with an underage teen has just married him a few days after he turned 16. Now it's up to Bullitt County Commonwealth Attorney Michael Mann to decide whether to pursue that criminal case against her. WAVE 3's Dina Kaplan reports.

Two days after Rebecca Burden was released from jail, after being arrested for having sex with two 15-year-olds, she married one of them. Justice of the Peace Gary Fields officiated.

"Everybody's got a story. Every couple that you meet has got a story," said Fields.

And according to Fields, Burden is pregnant.

"It was obvious she was pregnant. She was defitely showing," said Fields.

WAVE 3 News obtained the marriage license dated July 28th. Burden, a 27-year-old bride, and her groom who turned 16 just 6 days before the wedding.

"They were happy. You could tell he was a typical 16-year-old male," said Fields.

The wedding was held at the groom's parents house in Shepherdsville. His family refused an on-camera interview with us, but his sister did say the couple is "in love."

While Burden was in jail, her now-husband wrote her a series of love letters filled with notes and drawings including lines such as "I can't wait to see you again" and "You make my whole life happy."

In May, the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office arrested Burden. She has been indicted for two counts of rape.

"She stated she had a problem. She realized she needed to date someone her own age or not date men at all," said Detective Scott McGaha of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department.

Monday, Bullitt County Commonwealth Attorney Michael Mann told WAVE 3 News he "was surprised" to hear about the marriage. Now, Mann is considering dropping the rape charge in which Burden's now-husband was the victim. But Mann will pursue the other rape charge related to second 15-year-old boy.

Burden was married before. WAVE 3 News obtained a copy of her divorce papers. They were signed by a judge on May 3rd, less than three months before her 2nd wedding.
